The Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture: a review of progress and challenges in the SADC region

Abstract

The Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture (URAA) bears important implications for developing countries, including those of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), whose agricultural sectors are critical to economic growth, poverty alleviation and food security. This article reviews the progress of the SADC countries, focussing on Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique, and Tanzania, towards implementation of the URAA.
