High potentials of escalating HIV transmission in a low prevalence setting in rural Tanzania

Abstract

Background: Previous antenatal clinic (ANC) based surveys within remote rural Manyara and Singida region identified an imminent but still, relatively low HIV epidemic within the catchment area of a local hospital (Haydom Lutheran Hospital) within Manyara region in Tanzania. To identify risk factors and establish baseline HIV prevalence in this setting, we conducted a population-based study.
