Assessment of the quality of obstetric care in five hospitals in Tanga Region

Abstract

This paper describes an action research study which assessed the quality of delivery and postpartum care provided to women and new-born babies at hospitals in Tanga Region. A participatory approach was chosen to guarantee involvement and identification of the group under study with the results and to initiate a process of change. Elements of quality management were included. Quantitative and qualitative research tools were used.
