Access of the urban poor and vulnerable to health care in Africa
Abstract
The design and implementation of pro-poor policies request a series of information including knowledge on who are the poor and vulnerable groups and on feasible, efficient and sustainable ways to target them. Therefore, the current paper aims to: contribute to an understanding of who are the poor in urban settings; Examine access of urban poor groups to health care; Review targeting mechanisms within project supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation for poor and vulnerable groups in N’Djaména, Douala, Dar es Salaam; Discuss possible options for increasing access of the urban poor to health services.
