Provision of health services in Tanzania in the twenty first century:Lessons from the past
Abstract
Examines former President Mwalimu J.K.Nyerere's role and contributions to improving the health of the Tanzanian people from independence to when he stepped down as president in the mid 1980s. The paper tries to identify lessons from the Nyerere era that can be applied to better the on-going health sector reforms. The paper also tries to identify some of the missing links in health-sector policy formulation and implementation to provide viable policy recommendations for the present day.
