Evaluation of the malaria situation in Babati and Hanang Districts, Arusha Region

Abstract

The study assesses the malaria situation in the districts to establish the magnitude of the reported epidemic and possible means for its control. It reports that the rain season is associated with highest malaria hospital attendances, with case fatality rate of 2.8% and 1.8% in Babati and Hanang districts respectively. Malaria is also shown to be the main cause of death accounting for 60%, 78.9% and 88.2% of reported deaths for 1997, 1998 and 1999 respectively.
