The land use systems of the southern highlands of Tanzania

Abstract

An assessment of the land use systems of the Southern Highlands is presented together with basic information about the physical environment.: the geology, topography, soils and climate, which together affect the land suitability for various crops. This information has been used to produce a description of the agro-ecological zones of the Southern Highlands. Two complementary techniques have been used for this purpose: land system mapping and satellite imagery interpretation.
