Keeping mothers alive - monitoring maternal mortality in Tanzania

Abstract

How can maternal mortality levels be reduced in Tanzania? In the 1990s, Tanzania adopted a strategy based on raising the status of women, increasing health education and improving access to family planning. In addition the private health sector began to play an important role in maternity services, particularly. Seven years of community-based monitoring in different communities found that the most significant factor associated with the decline of maternal mortality (MM) rates was a family's educational level.
