Thermophilic campylobacter and vibro spp. from alimental, clinical and environmental sources in Eastern zone of Tanzania between 1984 and1998 a plausible concern to human health
Abstract
A series of integrated studies between the years 1984 and 1998 looked for non-genital camplylobacters and also mainly non-cholerae vibrios from fresh and sea water fish, faecal swabs of food animals like pigs, poultry, cattle, goats and rabbits and even mastomys nataliensis field mice which are a delicacy in many parts of the world not excluding Tanzania ! Clinical samples originated from a study in 1995 of stool samples of purging nursery school children who were C. jejuni positive at the rate of 8/27 children at SUA campus. Moreover three out of 40 goat milk samples supplying milk to this particular nursery school were also C. jejuni positive while 8/20 mastomys nataliensis mice trapped in the vicinity of goat and cattle compound were also positive for C. jejuni indicating a connection between the outbreak among children and isolations of C. jejuni in milk, calves and mice of the same environment.
